The Story Behind Lexi Loves Handmade, How Each Piece Is Made
Published by Lexi Loves Handmade · Reading time: 3 minutes
In a world of fast fashion and mass production, handmade jewellery stands apart. But what does handmade actually mean and what goes into creating each piece you find in our collection?
Here’s a look behind the scenes at Lexi Loves Handmade: where the brand came from, how each piece is crafted and why we think it matters.
Where It All Started
Every small brand has an origin story and ours is rooted in a simple love of making things. Lexi Loves Handmade was born from a desire to create jewellery that felt genuinely personal, pieces with character, made with care and designed to be worn and loved, rather than bought and forgotten.
What started as a creative outlet grew into something more. Our jewellery found an audience, people who were tired of earrings that irritated their skin, tired of pieces that looked identical to everything else on the high street. Tired of jewellery that didn’t last. And so Lexi Loves Handmade became a proper, growing collection.
What We Make and Why
Our collection centres on earrings – studs, statement pieces, hoops, huggies, and drops — alongside our Reed Edition of handmade home decor. Every category exists because there was a gap: beautiful, lightweight, hypoallergenic jewellery that doesn’t compromise on design.
The hypoallergenic part matters more than people realise. Nickel allergies affect a huge number of people in the UK and yet nickel still turns up in so much affordable jewellery. We made a deliberate decision early on to design pieces that are kind to sensitive ears, not as an afterthought, but as a starting point.
How Each Piece Is Made
Our earrings are handcrafted using polymer clay, a material we love for a lot of reasons. It’s lightweight, which means you can wear our statement pieces all day without discomfort. It’s incredibly versatile, allowing for textures, colours and shapes that simply aren’t possible with mass-produced metal jewellery. And it’s completely metal-free, making it naturally gentle on sensitive skin.
Each piece starts as raw clay, which is conditioned, shaped and refined by hand. Colours are blended deliberately, you won’t find the same result twice. Once shaped, pieces are cured, finished and fitted with hypoallergenic findings before going through a final quality check.
It’s a process that takes time. That’s the point.
Why Handmade Matters
When you buy handmade, you’re not buying a mass-produced unit from a warehouse. You’re buying something that someone sat down and made. Shaped, refined and finished with real attention.
This shows up in small ways the slight variation between pieces that makes each one unique, the care taken with finishing, the fact that if something isn’t right it doesn’t go out. There’s a quality control that comes naturally with handmade that’s very hard to replicate at scale.
It also means that when you wear a piece from our collection, you’re wearing something that exists nowhere else in quite the same way. That feels worth something.
What Comes Next
Our collections continue to grow and evolve, new colours, new shapes, new collaborations between ideas. The Reed Edition brought our handmade aesthetic into the home and there’s more to come.
But the core of what we do stays the same: beautiful, lightweight, hypoallergenic jewellery made by hand, with care, for people who want to wear something a little bit different.
